Call for Papers (Edinburgh workshop)
Introduction
Format
The workshop will take place on April 23-24, 2024 at the University of Edinburgh. Presenters will be asked to share a paper of around 6,000 to 8,000 words with all the participants, at least two weeks ahead of the event. The workshop will include a roundtable to introduce the network’s objectives, presentations (and discussions) of papers, breakout sessions to examine whether utopias can offer escape and shelter from a society that produces individual and collective failure, and a final session drawing shared themes together and previewing the following two workshops.

Submission
We invite submissions from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds in the humanities and social sciences (including, but not limited to, Politics, Law, Social Anthropology, Architecture, Sociology, Education and Cultural Studies) that engage with the broad topic of our first workshop. (Should you wish to participate in the workshop without giving a paper, please do not submit at this stage – there will be a registration closer to the date.)
If you would like to give a paper at our first event, please include an abstract on the application form (maximum 500 words):

The deadline for applications is September 5, 2023.
NOTE: The submission deadline has now passed. We will announce the full programme soon!
Funding
Should you require funding to attend the workshop, please indicate the reasons and the likely costs of your attendance in the form. We have limited funds, so will need to make a selection based on both merit and needs. Our primary goal is to enable Early Career Academics and those without secure employment to participate.
